I made the first Happy Baby Sling for my second daughter Florence. Flo spent her babyhood in the sling while her big sister Margaret, then three, was carried at the end of long walks. We have since been blessed with two more lovely girls Genevieve and Beatrice and our boy Theodore (Vivi, Bea and Teddy). They all followed a similar pattern. They were in arms almost constantly until they could sit up. They then rapidly became very mobile and confident, coming back for milk and cuddles and running off. As the first year shaded into the second we still used the sling a lot for shopping and keeping the baby out of trouble while visiting. I have found that all the children have had times when they needed to be carried all the way up to three or four. I made slings for friends and gradually a hobby turned into a business. Since those early beginnings we have sold thousands of slings all over the world. We are delighted to still be a family business and pride ourselves on a personal service

What makes this sling so special
The Happy Baby is based on the simple primitive sling, a circle of material going from shoulder to opposite hip. Our sling had lots of padding  and simple one handed adjustment to bring it bang up to date, but it's basically a very old idea indeed see: Cradle of Culture It works by supporting your baby in natural positions. Weight is distributed all round your body. The Happy Baby slips over your body like a sash, and then you pick up the baby and hold her. Next it's just a matter of making the sling do the work of your arms. You draw the fabric round her and tighten by simply pulling the strap. New-borns are cradled in the 'Lullaby Lie', 'Cosy Frog ' or 'Snuggler ' positions, ideal for their hobbies i.e. sleeping and breastfeeding. It is possible to loosen the sling and put a sleeping baby down without waking them. Once your little one has head control she can sit up sideways or front facing as a 'Little Buddha' It's a wonderful way to see the world. Later (5-7 mths.) Baby rides on your hip, where you carry her anyway, sling or no sling. There's an 'Out of Trouble' position for times you'd rather pass on sticky little fingers helping. After a few learning sessions, most parent and baby teams take to our slings like ducks to water. There is a full instruction booklet to guide you and I am happy to give phone tips also. See theFAQ and Instructions for more information. Babies 'find' their most comfortable position, the sling becomes part of  your life , a way of nurturing easily and quickly.  Sometimes a few minutes in their familiar sling soothes seemingly inconsolable babies in a a strange place, or when unwell. Not very big big brothers and sisters appreciate that their Mummy and Daddy can still tend to their needs while 'that baby' is safely 'slinged' around. I feel the Happy Baby really comes into it's own when travelling. It's a home from home which will fold up in your handbag.  Most people can comfortably carry up to 25% of their own weight if properly supported. We recommend the sling for babies up to15kg. That's the average weight of a two and a half year old. The tiniest baby I have ever helped into a sling was only 1.8kg. Preemie babies do appreciate the 'back to the womb' sensation of being carried. It frees them to devoting their energies to growing.
Our quality
We use 100% dress weight cotton. Cotton, because nothing feels so good, dress weight because it gives the perfect combination of comfort, strength and adjustability. Some people think slings have to be made from a canvas type material. They don’t. We’ve actually experimented with muslin and carried a six year old as a test – no breakages.(although obviously such light material would not last as long as dress cotton.) The hammock principle of weight distribution applies. There is a lovely sensation of the sling being part of your clothes, not a stiff awkward bit of equipment. We use 100% nylon rings; these have a break point of ˝ tonne, baby elephant territory here. The wadding is 100% Dacron, made to our specification. It is extremely soft, springy, washable and fire-retardant to European standards. We are proud to have been awarded "Best Buy" in "Practical Parenting " magazine 1998. We make our slings in four sizes to fit all sized parents. Petite – short parents of light build; Standard – fits most people; Large – 44" chest and up or tall parent – 6 feet plus; Xlarge – to order. We have three fabric options.

Sizes
Petite, Standard, Large, X Large
Most people fit standard. If you are short, say 5'2" and of light build British size 8 or 10 possibly 12, and the only wearer, get a petite. On the other hand if you want to share with a bigger partner, you could probably get away with a standard if you are at least a size 10, the defining criterion is can you get the sling adjusted snugly enough.   If you are tall say 5'10" and of big build (42" chest), or have a long back, get a large.Tall slim women often fit standard. Width is more important than height unless the back is very long.If you find you need to shop in special O.S. shops, get XL (XL is euro7) There is no problem with size exchanges.
